Ways to Reach the Ultimate Level of Coziness

Fall is here, which means that the cold weather is on its way. Many people end up hibernating until it starts warming back up in the spring, but this doesn’t have to be the case. There are many things you can do during the cooler months to save yourself from boredom. It may be freezing outside, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still be cozy!

Setting the mood

Lighting candles is one of the most effective ways to achieve maximum coziness. They not only make your home smell great, but they give soft lighting, which is key to being cozy.

Suggestion: Light seasonal scented candles such as pumpkin, apple pie, or peppermint.

Bake some goodies

There is an endless number of things you can bake during the winter to bump up your comfort level. If you’re struggling on what to make, do a quick Google search and you’ll be sure to find a recipe. Make an ingredient list and head to the grocery store. Not only will you have a tasty treat when you’re finished, but your house will smell delicious too!

Suggestion: If you have any family or friends who are good cooks, invite them over to bake some goodies with you.

Update your space

Plush throws, faux fur, and pillows make your space feel much more welcoming. Adding soft fabrics and cushions will definitely make your home all the cozier.

Suggestion: This does not have to be expensive. Check out Pinterest for some DIY decorating ideas!

Have family & friends over

Instead of becoming a hermit as soon as fall hits, invite your family and friends over. Why not share your cozy space with those you care about?

Suggestion: If you are hosting, you most likely feel pressured to cook. If you are tight on money, find a recipe, have everyone bring over an ingredient or two, and cook the meal as a team.

Bring out the board games

Board games are a great way to spend time with family and friends on a cold night. You could have a competitive game of Monopoly or a friendly game of Go Fish. Whatever game you choose, light some candles and grab your favorite fall drink.

Suggestion: Technology is a great way to stay in contact with friends and family who may live far away. Download some different games and connect with your loved ones through the apps.

Become a barista

Speaking of fall drinks, the cooler months are the perfect time to become your own barista. Pinterest has endless amounts of ideas. Even if you go as simple as hot cocoa, add your own spin on a classic recipe. Then have some friends over and show off your mixology skills.

Suggestion: If you are wanting something other than a mocktail and you are over the age of 21, feel free to spice your drink up. Make yourself an Irish coffee with Bailey’s or add some Kahlua to your coffee.

Sweater weather is better weather

Nothing says “cozy” like a comfy sweater. Find your favorite one and pair it with some thick socks. You are bound to feel at home.

Suggestion: Save some of your hard-earned money by browsing the sweater selection at your local Goodwill. I’ve found some of my favorite sweaters at thrift stores. You just have to dig a little!

Create a cold-outside playlist Make a playlist of all the music that makes you feel relaxed and happy. One of my favorite ways to make my apartment feel homier is having Alexa play my ‘cozy playlist’ as background noise. Here are some songs to help you get your playlist started:

Sun Goes Down – Eric Hutchinson

Let It Go – James Bay

The Night We Met – Lord Huron

For Emma, Forever Ago – Bon Iver

Atlas Hands – Benjamin Francis Leftwich

Lights Up – Harry Styles

The Bones – with Hozier – Maren Morris

When the End Comes – Andrew Belle

Suggestion: If you have a music service like Spotify or Apple Music, you can search for fall/winter playlists or even search for music based on your mood.

Do seasonal activities Apple picking, visit a pumpkin patch, make caramel apples, watch football, go on a hayride, go sledding, build a snowman. There are tons of activities you can do throughout the fall and winter.

Suggestion: Again, Pinterest will be your best friend for different ideas. The examples below are from Pinterest and are full of fun ways to spend your free time over the colder months.
